Come
one, come all! It doesn't matter whether you are already a thru hiker
or have never spent a night out on trail before, there is a benefit for
EVERYONE in Mountain Crossings' Hike School Backpacking Class!
If
you already know all you need to know to be successful, you will have a
great time meeting new people and shopping new, ultralight gear. If you
are fresh to the world of backpacking, you will leave with all the
knowledge, gear and confidence to take on your first backpacking
excursion!
This class is designed to help you buy your gear once
and to buy it right the first time! We want to introduce you to all your
gear options, help properly fit you for a pack that not only fits your
body but your gear, as well, and help you get into a pair of shoes that
fit properly for those days spent hiking crushing miles on trail! In
this class, we will cover how to properly pack your backpack so as to
optimize the capacity and fit of the pack; how to plan your next hike
whether that be a weekend outing or a thru hike, how to use different
types of backpacking equipment (tents vs. hammocks vs. tarps, canister
stoves vs. alcohol stoves, etc.) so that you can choose what is best for
you; resupply techniques includes mail drops, what to pack in your food
bag and how to cook it; pack fittings; shoe fittings; and a weekend
long, whenever the thought arises Q and A!
The class begins on the evening of
Friday, December 7th with a presentation at 6pm by a former thru hiker and
long time Mountain Crossings employee. Feel free to arrive before then
and peruse the shop, enjoy the view from the overlook or get settled
into the hostel. A stay overnight in the hostel is included in the price of the class (a sleeping bag and pillow will be needed for hostel bunks).
The next morning, on Saturday December 8th, one on one time with a Mountain
Crossings employee will be available to each class participant so that
they can get personalized advice and experience regarding their own gear
and gear needs. We will have extra staff on hand that day, all of whom
are former thru hikers, to ensure you will get a personalized assistant to help you with gear! We
encourage you to bring what backpacking gear you may have already so
that you can go over it with an employee. Feel free to also come with a
list of questions and concerns! The class cost is $50 and this
fee is a rebate that is applied to a purchase made that day at Mountain
Crossings! That's right! The class comes with $50 of gear FREE! Class time and date: Friday, December 7th, 6pm to Saturday, December 8th 3pm
Class Cost: $50 Rebate ($50 of gear is included in the class fee!)
